After a personal loss…

What is it they tell you to do during times of stress? Practice mindfulness…be in the moment…notice the small things, right? This was my favorite moment yesterday: a blue-grey gnatcatcher plucking spiderwebs from a tree crevice to use in nest-building. I’m proud of this shot because blue-grey gnatcatchers are itty bitty…only a smidge bigger than a ruby-throated hummingbird…and in constant motion.

I was officially looking for raptors and raptor nests as part of a master naturalist project. That’s the only reason I was in the field yesterday, as exhausted as I was. But I am happy that I was there to see this tiny bird making a tiny nest to house her even tinier babies. Life goes on.
